Insurance
The work can be dangerous and damage to property caused by accidents can be serious and costly.
It's of paramount importance to know that your tree surgeon is insured. A lack of qualfications
or at the very least extensive experience of good practice will usually negate the obtaining of insurance.

City & Guilds are the first
examining body that comes to most people’s minds when thinking of
the manual labour trades. Affiliated with City & Guilds are the NPTC (National Proficiency Tests
Council) who examine operators in the fields of what they call 'land
based and related industries' which includes tree surgery.
HSE
Furthermore the Health and Safety Executive release safety information
on most aspects of tree work under the AFAG
(Arboriculture and Forestry Advisory Group) guidance series.
